Cannibalism: A Love Poem

Cannibalism

And what could be more intimate?

To deflesh a skull

crack a femur

to get down

to the very marrow.

Is there a greater act

of love

as when the prayers of the mantis

are answered

and her lover loses his head over her

after the frenzied copulation?

Or the  amoeba

with all consuming passion

shuns his bacterial prey

and engulfs his object of desire

in a zygote for two.

And isn't it the same, my love

for me

and you.
